Vertical Circular Self Leveling Mill V-CSLM Profile

1.0 Technical Information
The V-CSLM consists of a rigid box supported on wheels travelling upon the surface to be machined. This box is extended to the centre with structural beams connected to a central pivoting system (CPS). An adjustable hydraulic driven milling cutter is mounted in the box and machines the circular surface, and any related surfaces as the assembly rotates around the central pivot.

A precision datum ring, mounted around the central pivot point, is used as the independent reference. This datum ring reference is mechanically adjusted parallel to the desired plane to be machined.

Electronic probes attached to the beams sense the position of the beam height relative to the reference. The control circuit automatically and continuously adjusts the travel wheel height maintaining the dimension between the beams and the reference as the wheels travel through the peaks and valleys upon the surface being machined.

The normal error between the datum ring and the structural beams is 0.02mm (0.001”). The error at the surface being machined is proportional to the diameter of the datum ring diameter. For example, up to 5.5m (18 ft) diameter we would expect to achieve an overall flatness tolerance of 0.07mm (0.003"). Thermal distortion and mechanical deflection of the component being machined can increase the machining error.

Two adjustable counter balance weights are used to accurately balance the machine. Opposing force is applied to maintain the wheels against the surface being machined.

The V-CSLM can produce a variety of required machine surface finishes. Spigots, internals and external surfaces can be machined in addition to the travel surfaces.

2.0 Advantages
The lightweight design offers a simple solution to the problem of machining large vertical surfaces that can be well beyond the diameters achievable with conventional flange facing machines.

Extremely improved accuracy over conventional portable machining. Material removal rates are appreciably more efficient when compared to single point tool machining.

The standard V-CSLM package, as shipped, has the ability to machine a large range of diameters and is easily adaptable in the field to accommodate unexpected situations. Inverted and vertical surfaces, remote from the initial surface on which the wheels travel can also be machined to very close tolerances.

The V-CSLM incorporates an independent pivoting system for gathering survey data separate to the CPS. The Client can witness the survey process if requested.

3.0 Capacity and Shipping
Operating range is up to 9m (30ft) for the V-CSLM based on the CSLM system and to 4.6m (15ft) when based on the LP-CSLM.

Shipment is packaged within a standard 20ft sea container.
